Dr. Cheryl Runs for ‘Hope’; 76 Year- Old UK Woman Shines at Federal Bank Kochi Marathon

Kochi: The Federal Bank Kochi Marathon witnessed an inspiring participant—76-year-old Dr. Cheryl Berry from England. Defying age, she joined the city’s marathon for a heartfelt reason: Hope Community Village in Kanjikuzhy, Alappuzha.
“I am running to raise awareness for Hope Community Village. This is my first time participating in the Kochi Marathon,” said Dr. Cheryl. Despite the humid weather, her daily training helped her adapt. “I have ten children from Hope running alongside me,” she added.
Having completed the London Marathon 15 times, Cheryl’s goal was never about winning or prizes—it was about the well-being and upliftment of Hope, an organization close to her heart.
The children of Hope were thrilled to run alongside their mentor through the heart of Kochi. To prepare, they underwent three weeks of rigorous training at their lush green ground in Hope Community Village, ensuring that age was no barrier to participation.
The joy of completing the 3 km marathon was evident on the children’s faces. Dr. Cheryl strongly believes that physical fitness is as crucial as academics. While football remains the favorite sport among Hope children, she hopes to see them participate in many more marathons in the future.
