Date: October 2, 2024
Location: DCC Hall, Sacred Heart Cathedral, New Delhi

The Ecumenical Commission of the Archdiocese of Delhi organized the National Day of Prayer on October 2, 2024, at the DCC Hall, Sacred Heart Cathedral. The event began with a solemn blessing from His Grace Archbishop Anil J.T. Couto, who emphasized the importance of peace and unity in the country. He reflected on peace as a divine gift, aligning it with Mahatma Gandhi's vision of harmony, especially on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

The event was led and organized by Fr. Norbat Harman, who played a pivotal role in bringing everyone together for this prayerful gathering. Fr. Harman also led the congregation in a special prayer and sang a heartfelt song for peace, calling for divine intervention in fostering harmony across communities and nations.

A special prayer was offered by Archbishop Kuriakose Bharanikulangara for the Delhi Government and the citizens of India, as well as for those affected by the ongoing violence in Manipur and for peace in Israel and other war-affected countries, highlighting the Church's commitment to promoting peace and reconciliation worldwide. Additional prayers were made for the judiciary, workers, farmers, and migrants, showing solidarity with all sectors of society.

The gathering was graced by dignitaries including Bishop Thomas Mar Aprem, along with pastors and leaders from various Christian denominations, underscoring the ecumenical nature of the event.

The program featured a moving prayer dance by students from St. Michael’s Jr. School and St. Agnelo’s School, and a special choir performance by students of Caleb Institute, enhancing the spiritual atmosphere.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. A.C. Michael, followed by the National Anthem.

This National Day of Prayer served as a powerful reminder of the Church's role in praying for peace and well-being, while promoting unity and the values that Mahatma Gandhi cherished for the nation.
