Headed by young social entrepreneur Mr. Abinash Panda and PractoMind Group, Mo Pathashala looking to expand its reach in Eastern Odisha & Costal Belt in 2024-25.
Addressing the Educational Challenges in Rural Odisha
The education system in rural Odisha faces significant challenges. According to recent data, about 46% of rural students failed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination, primarily due to the lack of quality education and organized after-school classes. A staggering 51% of parents are unable to afford private tuitions, leaving students without essential academic support. Furthermore, poverty drives 39% of these students to discontinue their education after HSC, forcing them into labour. This cycle of educational deprivation also impacts young graduates, with over 10,000 unemployed graduates in rural Odisha struggling to find opportunities. Additionally, 41% of graduate girls are married off early due to the lack of income and prospects for a better future.
Mo Pathashala: A Holistic Solution
Mo Pathashala aims to tackle these issues head-on through a comprehensive and sustainable approach. By setting up Learning Centers across villages, the initiative offers free after-school classes, ensuring that no child is left behind due to financial constraints. Beyond academics, Mo Pathashala provides scholarships for higher education to HSC graduates, giving them the support they need to pursue their dreams.
To foster long-term development, the organization conducts career counseling and educational awareness programs, reaching out to families to stress the importance of continued education. At the same time, Mo Pathashala addresses the issue of graduate unemployment by offering micro employability opportunities. Graduates are encouraged to become teachers within their communities, creating a cycle of empowerment and growth.
An innovative aspect of this initiative is its focus on women social entrepreneurship. By funding rural women to establish their own Learning Centers, Mo Pathashala promotes gender equality while strengthening the local education system. These centers also serve as hubs for elevating the HSC curriculum, ensuring that students are exposed to modern teaching methods.
A Vision for the Future
Mo Pathashala’s mission is clear: to discover, develop, and deliver innovative educational practices that can reach every student in Odisha by 2030. The organization envisions a future where the state achieves 100% literacy, and rural students, especially those in the Higher Secondary level, have access to quality education that fosters personal and academic growth. By boosting the careers of unemployed graduates and enrolling them in social entrepreneurship programs, Mo Pathashala is not just building an educational model but also paving the way for economic upliftment.
In a state where education has often been inaccessible to the most vulnerable, Mo Pathashala is a catalyst for change. By addressing the systemic issues facing rural students and young entrepreneurs, it is providing a sustainable and scalable solution that promises to impact generations to come. With its ambitious goal of reaching every rural student in Odisha by 2030, Mo Pathashala is truly on a mission to empower rural education and transform the future of the state.
Together, Mo Pathashala and the people of Odisha are building a brighter, more educated tomorrow.
