Google & Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeiTy) unveils Top 100 app startups in the country, Mysuru based start-up SportiWe is one amongst them.

On Tuesday, 28th March 2023; MeitY Startup Hub, which is an initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and Google unveiled 100 Indian early to mid-stage startups as part of the Class of 2023 for Appscale Academy. The program aims to provide these startups with the necessary skills and guidance to build high-quality apps and games and help them grow into successful businesses.

According to Google, the cohort of 100 startups was chosen from over 950 applications following an in-depth selection process that took into account their creative ideas and innovation, product quality, product scalability, and talent diversity. The startups represent a diverse range of creative solutions for India's critical needs, including education, health, social, agriculture, and gaming.

“The cohort’s main sectors span Education, Health, Social, Agriculture, and Gaming. Representing the talent diversity emerging among India’s startup and developer ecosystem, ~50 percent of the cohort comes from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, including Mysuru, Varanasi, Ernakulam, Surat, Dehradun, Allahabad, and many others. Thirty-seven percent of the cohort have a woman founder at the helm,” Google said in a statement.

Mysuru based sports app SportiWe founded by Varun Gururaja, Amey Dalvi, K S Gururaja, Nalini Gururaja and Santhosh Gowda is one amongst the 100 in the Class of 2023.

“ SportiWe what began as a dream came to reality from the city of Mysuru last year when the mobile application went live on Google Play and App Store. The app is seeing a tremendous organic growth in the last few weeks; where we are seeing hundreds of people downloading the free-to-use sports networking application on a daily basis.

With our selection in the cohort and recognition by Google, the confidence in ourselves has boosted and we now see ourselves as sky is the limit.

It was indeed a proud moment for us to not only represent the company but also the city of Mysuru at the launch event which recently happened in a hybrid model.

Over the last year and half of our operations, we have realized that cities like Mysuru are giving tough competition with Tier 1 cities and the talent pool available here is no less compared.

SportiWe is excited to embark on this new journey and looks forward to leveraging the insights gained from this program to enhance the user experience for its customers.

Just a couple days after the launch, we are already seeing a great traction especially on people recognizing and congratulating us from different parts of the country. We heartily thank the entire team of Google and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeiTy) for giving us an opportunity to be part of this prestigious cohort.”  Said Varun Gururaja, Founder & CEO of SportiWe in a statement.

SportiWe is also achieving many other milestones such as getting selected InGrow Accelerator by Induckt Global VC(Only startup outside Delhi NCR), shortlisted at IIT-Madras Elevate, completing 100x.VC’s Gurukul and recently completed SJCE-STEP’s Acceleroprenuer amongst others.

This recognition is a significant milestone for SportiWe and reflects the company's commitment to providing exceptional sports experiences to its users. Through these programs, SportiWe will have access to webinars, mentorship sessions, and the opportunity to pitch their ideas to venture capitalists, further enhancing their growth prospects.
