The Life Engineering Foundation – Providing Futuristic Educational Courses for Life-Long Learning

Unschooling or home schooling is an unconventional learning methodology which opens the doors for practical education by enabling a wider understanding of daily-life concepts and a child-centric approach. This practice is increasingly becoming a popular choice for parents today as it helps an individual apply theory to real-life situations and also offers the flexibility to learn at one's own pace.

The Life Engineering Foundation is one such platform based in India which was officially established by Shraddha and Sandeep Pingale with the aim to provide futuristic educational courses aligned with the concepts of sustainability for a holistic and lifelong learning.

The Foundation focuses on building a community of parents who believe that the regular educational system’s  approach of one-size-fits-all, cannot be relied upon. It aims at bringing together such parents who are willing to take the responsibility of their child's education in their hands and explore an open learning platform not bound by a rigid syllabus or outcome.

The Founders, Shraddha & Sandeep Pingale are entrepreneurs by profession who realized how the outdated education system in the country is leading to a dearth of creativity as they witnessed while recruiting students for their company. Their entrepreneurial journey in India began after they returned back from Dubai in 2010 due to recession and established Econstruct Design and Build Pvt Ltd., an Engineering Consultancy and Construction Company based in Bangalore.

Over time, after visiting several engineering colleges across the nation for placement drives, they saw that the civil engineering students lacked technical skills and clarity. They also lacked good communication skills which in turn affected their confidence levels. There was no shred of out-of the box thinking among the graduates who required clear instructions telling them what has to be done. The system had rendered them incapable of innovative and critical thinking.

She realised that even after so many hours of studies involved over a span of twenty years, fresh graduates are not able to make it to the job market. Mostly, they have to struggle to get core placements and end up working on additional international degrees or arranging for private certificate courses to get into the job market. In this process, by the time one is able to figure out his/her niche, in the job market, the individual is already 30+ years old.

All these encounters made Shraddha & Sandeep realise that the regular education system consumes too much of time, and the stress that a parent undergoes for the child’s education to train him/her in one skill to help earn a basic meal is not worth it. An animal like a shark does it much better and within few days of birth! Clearly, humans were not realising their potential and the education system was one of the biggest blocks.

Another important observation Shraddha made was that the fixed syllabus and time table including the evaluation format was hampering the learning process and growth by making students miss on important Life Skills necessary for living.

This is when Shraddha started looking for other alternatives for her children and not finding a satisfactory one, decided to take the responsibility of educating her son by unschooling him after his 4th grade. She further went on to launch The Life Engineering Foundation for those parents who wanted to provide their children an opportunity for joyous and meaningful learning.

The Life Engineering Foundation was therefore established as an ideal establishment for Home schooling, Unschooling, Open Schooling, and Free Schooling for parents who believe in self-directed learning. Instead of becoming a part of the rat-race, this foundation focuses on helping an individual build a happy and peaceful life by looking at career as a part of life, and not the reason of life. Focusing on skills such as taking care of the body and mind , concentrating on healthy food habits, Panchkarma, Naturopathy, Yoga, Organic farming and others goes a long way in life. This is often neglected and the Life Engineering Foundation addresses that lacunae. Additionally, acquiring general skills such as fixing a tap, installing a fan or lights, repairing a cycle, bike or car, basic hardware, software, networking and having knowledge about insurance, finance management, legal aspects, etc makes an individual ready to face every day challenges and become independent.

The Life Engineering Foundation also focuses on Sustainability which involves working for planet, peace, people, and prosperity. It also teaches important soft skills and relationship management skills along with time management and organizing and de-cluttering skills.

The foundation also imparts knowledge on heritage and culture, self-defence techniques, business communication and corporate etiquette and aids budding teen entrepreneurs with practical experience and internships. It additionally aids the process of securing the 10th and 12th exams from Open boards like NIOS and IB by providing required tuitions for students.

At the Foundation, the belief is that the process of learning is never-ending. By providing a blend of teaching materials that draw from traditional wisdom and futuristic technologies, a conducive atmosphere that merges freedom and the right triggers for learning, and facilitators who combine compassion and enthusiasm in guiding their students, the Life Engineering Foundation promises to be a place where learning flows naturally.
