DR PLUS – India’s First BAMS UG Examination Guide App

In India, the detailed knowledge about ancient medical practices such as ayurvedic treatments has always been popular among masses. BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) is a professional undergraduate level degree course about Ayurveda which includes a detailed study about the ‘Knowledge of Life’.
However, understanding the concepts and cracking the medical examinations during the course period is not an easy task. For this purpose, Dr Dony Manuel & Dr Rosan Chacko launched an edu-tech start-up, Dr Plus Online which is a premium guide for BAMS Examinations. Dr Plus is a Kerala based platform which was officially established on 20 January 2021 with the aim to provide a unique study technique involving pre-recorded video lectures by expert tutors, student discussion forums, and trusted content.
The journey of establishing DR PLUS began when Dr Dony Manuel & Dr Rosan Chacko observed that many of their own friends failed in the BAMS UG examinations which resulted in wasted time and effort and took as long as ten years to clear the supplementary exams. Moreover, the fact that some of them left the course midway, made them realise the need to make customised notes converted into recorded video lectures with mnemonics and codes to help two of their friends. This attempt was appreciated by other students as well who requested for help in other subjects. Such an overwhelming satisfactory response led them to unite around fifty doctors and create a BAMS Guide website for videos and notes of all subjects with an affordable fee structure.
The positive response overflow led them to further launch an android app in September 2021 which helped them continue their journey across South Indian states of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Dr Dony and Dr Rosan carried out research on digital guide concept in 2020 after which they soon launched the phase -I classes. They believe that technology changes every second, minute, and day and this fast lane-changing trend and discovery of new roads led their drive towards introducing digital classrooms for BAMS Students. DR PLUS is therefore a digital way to teach and learn with a fevered team of doctors, writers, tutors, designers and editors who have created material for the BAMS syllabus.
The platform offers students the choice to join their required course after which the process is automated and they can add subjects to cart and pay online and access the course anytime and anywhere with ease. The various courses offered include anatomy, physiology, panchakarma, salya tantra, nidana and others. Since its inception, the platform has made huge progress in terms of 7320 Content Creation, over eight thousand hours of student activity and influencing over 5000+ students.
Besides being India’s first BAMS Undergraduate Examination guide app, DR PLUS has given scholarships on its courses worth Rs.120000 to twenty students this year and also gave a 100% free reduction on fee for financially backward students. Additionally, the platform provides free consultation for all students in respect of any BAMS learning issues and provides an opportunity to earn an additional income for 50+ BAMS Doctors.
